COURSE DESCRIPTION:
Piano & Keyboard Technique is a fundamentals-level course that is designed to meet and encourage the musical interests of any student interested in playing the piano, with or without prior experience. Students will study and gain basic proficiency in piano posture and technique, keyboard recognition, and music literacy and notation skills. Through performance of pieces in diverse styles, students will develop a basic knowledge in musical styles, historical periods, and the physical structure and capabilities of the piano. Repertoire to be studied will be taken from the text and supplemental resources selected for each student’s individual abilities and needs.
Attendance
When a student is absent it is his/her responsibility to obtain class notes and homework assignments. Homework is due on the next class meeting when a student returns to school. Missed quizzes and/or tests will be rescheduled.
Rules and Consequences
Students will adhere, at all times, to the MHSS Code of Conduct. Failure to follow these rules will result in disciplinary action and affect the classroom participation grade.
Electronics Policy:
Laptops and cell phones may be used ONLY at designated times for educational purposes. If a student uses an electronic device for any non-educational purpose, the student’s participation grade will be lowered and the device may be confiscated.
